History

Southampton based futurist/post-Industrial band, formed in January 1983. Originally called Luftwaffe X in December 1981 which then became The Grey Wolves in 1982 before becoming Final Sound in 1983 with several new members.

As Luftwaffe X the line up was Jason “Fox” Howells on vocals, Steve X on guitar, James Cross on bass and Tim Brown on drums. The Grey Wolves lineup was Jason Howells on vocals, Steve X on guitar, James Cross on bass and Steve Pearson – drums. With the Final Sound line up being Joanne Keal on vocals (1983), Steve X on vocals (1984), guitar, backing tapes, keyboard, drum programming, James Cross on bass (1983-1984), Steve Pearson on drums (1983), Tony Mitchell on keyboards, drum programming (1984), Amanda Burnay on vocals (1984) and Elizabeth Baker on vocals (1985).

The original line-up was Joanne Keal vocals, Steve X on guitar, backing tapes and keyboards and James Cross on bass. In March 1983 Steve Pearson, who had previously been in The Grey Wolves, joined on drums. Keal left the band in August 1983, Steve X replaced her, whilst remaining on guitar and keyboard. Tony Mitchell, ex-Visual Displays, joined in December 1983. At around the same time Pearson left. Amanda Burnay joined as vocalist in January 1984. In December 1984 both Burnay and Cross left. In February 1985 Elizabeth Baker joined as vocalist but left shortly after in July 1985
