Bakers Dozen
History
Bakers Dozen was formed in the summer of 1995 in Edinburgh, Scotland. But as all the band members played in other bands at the same time Bakers Dozen never really got started until 1999. The band was formed around the vocalist Jon and the original three other band members soon left the band when it become more than just a hobby. Jon got two of his mates Craig and Gary in to rehearse and write some new songs. By mid-1997 the band played their first gig in Fife which ended in a brawl.
In 1998 Dave Wallace joined the band on guitar and the following year Jon made Bakers Dozen his full time band. The new line up played their first gig at the local skinhead club Postillion. After several more gigs with On File, The Swellbelly’s and Happy Spastics the pub was closed by mid 2000.
After a few more gigs with Retaliator and Resistance 77 the band played Europe for the first time in the legendary skinhead pub De Kastelein. Soon after this Dave who was still just 18 left the band, and was replaced by Gordon Balfour who used to play in the Exploited years previously. This was just in time for Bakers Dozen to play a massive Oi! festival in Kent with Condemned 84, Section 5, Retaliator and On File.
The band gigged on and on as a 3-piece and recorded their debut album, Ripe For Violence EP with 3 tracks. In the summer of 2001 the band played the Morecombe Holidays In The Sun festival with over 100 other bands. The line up for that was Jon and Gary and two friends helping on guitar and drums.
Next studio session was in June 2001 and recorded Divided From The Masses in 2002. By the end of 2001, Bobe had joined the Bakers Dozen on guitar from the punk band External Menace.
The line in 2002 was Jon on vocals, Craig Young on drums, Gary Lafferty (The Happy Spastics and Overspill) on bass, Stuart on guitar.
