Argy Bargy

History

Argy Bargy is a Punk Oi! band formed in October 1992 in Watford, London. In British the name is an informal term that refers to a lively discussion, argument, or disagreement, often not taken too seriously.

The original lineup consisted of Watford Jon on vocals, Dustin on drums, Stuart on guitar, Kev on guitar and Carl on bass. After a few rehearsals, the band began recording their first demos. The following year, they felt ready for their first live show — but it went badly. Their lack of experience, unreliable sound, and too much alcohol kept them from delivering the performance they had hoped for.
Despite the rough start, they didn’t give up. Later that same month, they returned to the stage and delivered a powerful show that won over the crowd, even prompting people to jump on stage and sing along. Shortly afterward, they received an offer from Tony Saunders of Step One Records, giving them a chance to take a major step forward.

However, things quickly fell apart. Stuart and Kev were dealing with personal issues and decided to return to their hometown of Glasgow. Carl, being close to them, left as well. This left only Jon and Dustin, who refused to abandon the project. Jon invited his friend and guitarist Daryl Smith to join, while Dustin recruited an old friend to take over on bass. This left the line as Watford Jon on vocals, Daryl Smith on guitar and vocals, Nicky Baxter on bass and vocals and Ray Dust on drums.
